I'm Phil Fugate — an engineering leader at AWS based in Denver, Colorado. I've been writing code professionally for over 20 years and managing engineering teams for the last several. Currently I'm building and leading a team of software development engineers at AWS.
Outside of work, I'm building FinEL — a financial analytics platform that normalizes SEC filing data to enable cross-company financial comparison. Think Bloomberg Terminal, but for the rest of us.
What I write about
This site is where I share what I've learned about using AI to dramatically accelerate software development. Not theory — I'm writing from the perspective of someone who has shipped real infrastructure, real CI/CD pipelines, and real products with AI as a daily collaborator.
After 20 years of building software the traditional way, the last couple of years have changed everything about how I work. I want to help other experienced engineers make the same leap.
